Healing Grace:
Starting in last summer (cf
2016.02.04 letter I had very sore neck and shoulders --waking up every 2 hours. Spent the fall doing physiotherapy but no help. On May 1st, A visiting pastor (Pastor Zhang) prayed for me and stated that there was connection with my mother and the old-age home in which she is living -- source from demonic activity. (my wife had previously suggested such a connection with my mother and demonic activity) After he prayed for me, I noticed an improvement with myself sleeping better: the more dramatic change came a few weeks later after the Pastor of the church Chen Yong Kuang prayed with me. While there is still a little pain in my shoulders remains (which my cell group leader says is because of my poor posture), it is not significant enough to affect my sleeping: I no longer wake up every two hours. The change was quite abrupt: from waking up every two hours before praying to waking up zero or perhaps one time to use the bathroom. Praise God for his mercy.
In Canada w/Mother
I have visited my mother four times at the Long Term Care Facility. June 11, 12, 18, 19. On the two Saturdays we just had a short time with my mother: taking her for a short walk and then letting her lie down on her bed. We found that her head was drooping again and in addition was crooked to one side. According to Frank (another resident), I was told that my mother's head droop had almost disappeared but now has come back with a crooked is one side. Most of the times (if not all), I have found my mother tied up in a wheelchair when we arrive. The belt is very tight and according to Frank (another resident) hurts her very much. Two times her wheelchair has been stuck in a corner of her room. She always wants to get out of the wheelchair and it has no head support. Arriving on the first Saturday, my mother immediately recognized me -- much to aien's surprise -- and commented that she didn't expect me to be back. Generally, she is been aware of both aien and myself.
Related to the wheelchair: although we borrowed a portable wheelchair, we did not need. Mother was able to walk by her by herself inside her house, she was able to get in and out of the car by herself (she wasn't able to do this in the winter nor in November, nor last August). She walked around her house, she lie down on the couch and she got up. She sat down in chairs and she got up. She went to the bathroom by herself -- walking incredibly quickly (almost running). She walked into church and she walked out. In the evening, when I brought her back to St. Joseph's, I commented to the PSW who would help my mother get changed for bed, that I did not think that my another needed to be in wheelchair. She agreed but said she did not have the authority not to tie her in wheelchair -- this was a decision made by the nursing staff.
Positively, at St. Joseph's Villa mother seems relatively content now: I think this is to a large part due to the presence of a new friend Frank. He has given me much more clear information about the state of my mother than any of the nursing staff.
Canadian Physics Conference:
that I attended in Ottawa at beginning of June was great -- it was wonderful to crash with
Paul Beckwith. Researchers were both happy and depressed. Happy that the new government was finally allowing them to release their research results -- especially those related to
climate change. But depressed about the chances of averting large-scale starvation, famine in the near future. We heard data as some of the relative temperatures in the Arctic are now 20C above normal. It seems no one believes that 2C is possible but rather we are talking more like 6-7 C with 3-4m rising of sea levels, and parts of India, Middle East and even southern USA becoming uninhabitable. Severe water shortages are predicted for China within 10 years. In light of this, the idea being propagated in Ontario of eliminating the greenbelt, to allow the building of about 1 million new homes to house 3.5 million new residents seems crazy. I doubt we'll be getting any fruit in California in a few years. Reminds me of Jesus' saying:
"For nation shall rise against nation, and kingdom against kingdom: and there shall be earthquakes in divers places, and there shall be famines and troubles: these are the beginnings of sorrows. For in those days shall be affliction, such as was not from the beginning of the creation which God created unto this time, neither shall be. And except that the Lord had shortened those days, no flesh should be saved: but for the elect's sake, whom he hath chosen, he hath shortened the days. And then if any man shall say to you, Lo, here is Christ; or, lo, he is there; believe him not: For false Christs and false prophets shall rise, and shall shew signs and wonders, to seduce, if it were possible, even the elect." During this time: "the third part of the creatures which were in the sea died" and "the third part of trees was burnt up", and "the third part of men killed". This sounds it is expected from climate change. And this will likely be happening in my lifetime.
