Basic Programming
Overview of program development processes. Structured coding. Design methods. Programming modularity. Program structure and syntax. Data types, keywords and identifiers. Types of Operators. Precedence and associativity of operators.
Flow of Control
Relational, equality and logical operators. Structured statements: conditional statement (IF and CASE), looping statement (FOR, WHILE and REPEAT) and condition. Multi-layer looping control.
Functions and Procedures
Function declarations and definitions. Function prototypes. Parameter passing. Local and global variables. Function calls. Parallel and nested blocks. Default initialization. Recursive functions.
Arrays, Pointers and Strings
Review of data structure, flow of control, functions. Initialization and subscripting of arrays. Array as function arguments. Multidimensional arrays. Pointers, call by reference. The relationship between arrays and pointers. Pointer arithmetic and element size. Arrays of pointers. Strings and characters. String handling library functions.
Representing Data Structures
Declaring structures. Use of typedef in structures. Initialization of structures. Using structures to implement linked lists.
I/O and File Operations
Standard input and output. Reading and writing from standard I/O, strings and files. Formatting of read and write operations. File manipulation operations.
System Services
The use of libraries. Dynamic memory allocation. Accessing system services.
