I, Daniel, understood by the books the number of the years about which Yahweh's word came to Jeremiah the prophet, for the accomplishing of the desolations of Jerusalem, even seventy years. |

set my face to the Lord God, to seek by prayer and petitions, with fasting and sackcloth and ashes. I prayed to Yahweh my God, and made confession, and said, "Oh, Lord, the great and dreadful God, who keeps covenant and loving kindness with those who love him and keep his commandments, we have sinned, |

耶和華為要應驗藉 耶利米口所說的話， 就激動波斯王古列的心， 使他下詔通告全國說： |
Now in the first year of
Cyrus king of Persia,
that Yahweh's word by Jeremiah's mouth might be accomplished, Yahweh stirred up the spirit of Cyrus king of Persia, so that he made a proclamation throughout all his kingdom, and put it also in writing, saying, |

『耶和華天上的神 已將天下萬國賜給我， 又囑咐我在 猶大的耶路撒冷 為他建造殿宇。 在你們中間凡作他子民的， 可以上猶大的耶路撒冷， 在耶路撒冷重建 耶和華以色列神的殿 （只有他是神）。 願神與這人同在。 | Thus says Cyrus king of Persia,
'Yahweh, the God of heaven, has given me all the kingdoms of the earth; and he has commanded me to build him a house in Jerusalem, which is in Judah. Whoever there is among you of all his people, may his God be with him, and let him go up to Jerusalem, which is in Judah, and build the house of Yahweh, the God of Israel (he is God), which is in Jerusalem. |

「那些被擄歸回剩下的人在猶大省遭大難，受凌辱；並且耶路撒冷的城牆拆毀，城門被火焚燒。」 |
They said to me, "The remnant who are left of the captivity there in the province are in great affliction and reproach. The wall of Jerusalem is also broken down, and its gates are burned with fire.” |

坐下哭泣， 悲哀幾日， 在天上的 神面前 禁食祈禱說： | When I heard these words, I
sat down and wept, and mourned several days; and I fasted and prayed before the God of heaven, |

王對我說：「你既沒有病，為甚麼面帶愁容呢？這不是別的，必是你心中愁煩。」 於是我甚懼怕。 我對王說：「願王萬歲！ 我列祖墳墓所 在的那城荒涼， 城門被火焚燒， 我豈能面無愁容嗎？」 王問我說： 「你要求甚麼？」 於是我默禱天上的 神。 我對王說：「僕人若在王眼前蒙恩，王若喜歡，求王差遣我往猶大，到我列祖墳墓所在的那城去，我好重新建造。」 那時，王后坐在王的旁邊。 王問我說：「你去要多少日子？幾時回來？」 我就定了日期。 於是王喜歡差遣我去。 |
The king said to me, "Why is your face sad, since you are not sick? This is nothing else but sorrow of heart."
Then I was very much afraid. I said to the king, “Let the king live forever! Why shouldn't my face be sad, when the city, the place of my fathers' tombs, lies waste, and its gates have been consumed with fire?" Then the king said to me, "What is your request?" So I prayed to the God of heaven. I said to the king, “If it pleases the king, and if your servant has found favor in your sight, that you would send me to Judah, to the city of my fathers' tombs, that I may build it.” The king said to me (the queen was also sitting by him), “How long will your journey be? When will you return?" So it pleased the king to send me, and I set a time for him. |
