"Because the Past Influences the Present" Goal: To enable Taiwanese students to see through the eyes of Westerners
Course Information
Objective
Using the books written by, or recording the teachings of, Moses, Jesus and the Greek trio as examples, students will develop an appreciation of the importance of classical literature and thinkers in influencing and shaping the development of Western society, thought, and in particular, the modern scientific mindset.
Three, Yeh, Four Questions
For these classic books and thinkers, we consider three, yeh four, key questions:
"What is content of the book? What is the key ideas of this person?"
"Why did people respect/trust this book/person?",
"How did the book/person affect the lives of influential humans/society?"
"How can this book/person help me to live a better life?"
Teaching Methodology
Lectures by guest speakers and/or facilitators followed by small group discussions
