Prof. Jonathon White(白小明) was born and raised in the small town of Oakville, Canada, and has since lived in many other countries. After obtaining a Ph.D.from McMaster University, Canada, Jon moved to Asia. Starting first in China (Ocean University, Xi'an Institute of Optics and Fine Mechanics), Japan (Fuji Electric & KAST), and Malaysia (Multimedia University), Jon moved to Taiwan in 2003 where he became a Professor in the College of Electrical and Communication Engineering at Yuan Ze University. In Taiwan, Jon met (1991) and married (1997) Sharon Wu from Nantou. My wife and I have two daughters, Charity Grace and Ruth Ann, and two sons, Johann and Leon. In late 2013, Jonathon's mother, Marjorie, was diagnosed with stroke induced dementia. As the disease advanced, she spent more and more time awake at night and napping during the daytime. In order to help his mother, Jonathon used his engineering background in light to try to provide his mother light to enable her to sleep more and night and be more alert in the daytime. In 2021, Jon became an Adjunct Professor in the Dept of Engineering Physics at McMaster University in Hamilton, Canada.
